China meets an unequal detractor in US

Global Times, globaltimes.cn Image from article, with caption: Illustration: Liu Rui/GT US-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC)'s 2018 annual report to Congress is more radical than it was in previous years. The bipartisan commission recommended that the US government establish a fund to counter Chinese infrastructure financing deals in the developing world that export China's "model of authoritarian governance". USCC, created through a congressional mandate in October 2000, is responsible for monitoring and investigating national security and trade issues between China and the US. The commission has been releasing reports on China almost every year since 2002. But maligning China has become USCC's way of going about its business. As Sino-US relations have worsened this year, many US think tanks raised their chorus to accuse China. Not to fall behind, USCC waved the anti-China flag even higher. In USCC's 2018 report, China's infrastructure finan..

But she's not someone who's going to go toe-to-toe on policy with John Bolton." Alex Brandon/Associated PressLongtime UN observers say Heather Nauert would also be the least qualified person ever to hold the job of US Ambassador to the UN. Critics say Nauert, who is currently the State Department's spokesperson, is almost without policy experience. Before becoming State Department spokesperson in 2017, Nauert worked as a correspondent for ABC and Fox News. She went on to become a news presenter and co-anchor.No one who has worked with Heather Nauert doubts that she's a pretty good briefer, or that the former Fox & Friends host is a winning personality on camera. But longtime UN observers say Nauert, who is said to be US President Donald Trump's leading candidate to replace outgoing United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, would also b..

Academic Diplomacy, an Evolving Discipline

Balasubramanyam Chandramohan, University of London, Dr. Dan Rycroft, University of East Anglia, diplomacybeyond.com image (not from article) from Academic diplomacy is an area under higher education activity that has real potential in today’s world. It has two key facets: practice and policy, and theory. Their diplomacy, so to speak, was purely academic. Ancient centers such as Kancheepuram or Nalanda in India and their modern-day equivalents all help to facilitate such exchanges. Circulation of knowledge displays academic diplomacy in action at an individual level which is, nowadays, termed as knowledge diplomacy or public diplomacy [JB emph..
