China rolls out rap songs to pump up parliament

Beijing's propaganda apparatus is pumping up the volume for its annual parliament meeting, with videos starring a rapper dropping rhymes about his "elation" for the session and an American waxing lyrical about the Chinese "system of democracy".
Chinese state media regularly rolls out clips targeted at foreign audiences during important political events, and this year's production has again raised eyebrows among China watchers.
Xinhua, China's official news agency, co-produced a rap video entitled "'Two Sessions': To the World from China" to celebrate the annual meeting of the rubber-stamp parliament -- the National People's Congress -- and the country's top political advisory body.
Rich in rhymes which often appear incoherent, the song boasts about the country's social and scientific achievements, from anti-pollution measures to poverty alleviation programmes and a historic moon landing..

Political leadership versus diplomacy
Jeffrey Robertson, lowyinstitute.org
[JB note: From the article, a notable quotation: "Any junior diplomat who has waited hours at the airport for a politician’s arrival knows there is a big difference between political leadership and diplomacy."]

Following the Trump-Kim summits and a gush of commentary on “presidential diplomacy”, “face-to-face diplomacy”, “summit diplomacy”, and even “Trumpian diplomacy”, we’ve somehow come to accept politicians as diplomats. It may be time to recall the difference – before it’s too late.In chess, leadership pieces are played at the right time. The King is vulnerable and is protected, the Queen is powerful and used strategically. Why send the leaders out at the earliest stages? While it may be splitting hairs, leadership summits are not “diplomacy”. If we consider diplomacy to be the mediation of estranged entities by official representatives, then leadership summits aren’t diplomacy. Even the simplest definition, diplom..

To: Google e-mail recipients of the Public Diplomacy Press and Blog Review [PD Review]

Note: Pls. see the below sample of Google-emailed items (once a day, ca. 6:00 pm) from the PD Review that illustrate the following five points:
1. Forget about the top three highlighted (in small letters) titles. They don't lead you to a PD Review text/excerpt, even if you click on them.
2. Click on the highlighted large letters of titles in lower part of the email. They will lead you to a PD Review text/excerpt.
3. Most important: Forget about the texts below the highlighted large-letter headings. As emailed by Google, the texts are often unreadable, due to faulty format (and not as the texts originally appear on the PD Review).
4. If not satisfied with the readability of PD Review texts as seen on the Google PD Review emails, refer to the homepage of the PD Review, where these texts appear, in a readable format (but not as a rule in chronological order or in order of their importan..

Bolton called his “roughly 150 tweets” on the situation in Venezuela a “new experiment in public diplomacy [JB emphasis],” adding that most of his tweets also come out in Spanish because “we want to reach a Latin American audience in particular.”
“We are trying to rally support for the peaceful transition of power from Maduro to Juan Guaido, whom we recognize as president,” said Bolton. “Our objective is to have Juan Guaido become the interim president so that we can get new presidential elections.” ...

Donald Trump, as president, has made a habit of comingling personal and governmental business to his benefit, but Trump’s tweet Saturday morning about his golf club in Scotland is perhaps the most explicit example of Trump using his office as a tool of self-promotion and personal gain.
Trump has never been much for ethics and the GOP has given the president carte blanche to do as he pleases, no matter the appearance of impropriety. The Aberdeen course that Trump promo’d was Trump’s first course in Europe, but has failed to take off like the Trump Organization had anticipated when buying the course in 2006. Trump promised the club would create as many as 6,000 jobs in the community. The reality, as is often the case with Trump, has been much less rosy, and the course has lost money each ..

OIC [Organisation of Islamic Cooperation] debacle
The Frontier Post, Posted in Editorial, March 2, 2019
image (not from article) from [see below end line in entry]Excerpt:
India capitalized on the diplomatic inertia of previous PML-N [JB see] government and extended the sway of its economic diplomacy in the Gulf States and Middle East. The appointment of cronies and individuals alien to the difficult art of diplomacy pushed the country to diplomatic isolation. Playing a second fiddle role by the former Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif versus his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the diplomatic front damaged the image of Pakistan even in the Islamic countries. In contrast India posted skillful diplomats in Gulf States and Middle East to strengthen bilateral relation in almost all fields. Apart from professional diplomacy, the Indian diplomats pursued public diplomacy through the Indian nationals involved in business and jobs in various companies in the Gulf countries. No such services for the country were made by the political appointees’ ..
