Eric Fillion is a PhD candidate at Concordia University in Canada studying the history of Canadian cultural diplomacy at both the governmental and individual levels.

In his research, he traces the origins of Canada’s cultural diplomacy and analyzes the contributions of government officials, artists and audiences.

“I [use] sources that diplomatic historians tend to overlook,” shares Fillion on how he goes about his research. “The correspondence of composers, sound recordings, music programs, concert reviews. What I like about this material is that it invites new questions regarding the connection between our foreign policy and our national identity politics.”

The following video is an introduction to Fillion’s work. You can find the original video on Concordia University’s YouTube page here.
