Johnson administration to craft public diplomacy and information policy during the middle period of the Cold War. A major emphasis is on the various ways the United States Information Agency (USIA) presented U.S. foreign policy objectives to global audiences during a time of great social upheaval within the United States, particularly during the Civil Rights movement. It also describes how the Johnson administration ensured both USIA and the Department of State utilized a variety of public diplomacy tools in the face of numerous crises that defined the 1960s. Joseph Estey Macmanus, nominated November 29, 2017, to be the next ambassador to Colombia from the United States, has more than 30 years’ experience in the Foreign Service, has participated in difficult negotiations with foreign adversaries and helped to run the Department of State. Although his confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations was held on March 7, 2018, his confirmation was blocked by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). The reason? He was former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s executive assisatant, and he was supported by former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Macmanus was born in 1953 to Joseph and Miriam Macmanus and has three brothers and two sisters, including his twin, Mary. He grew up in Buffalo, New York, but left the area for college, attending Notre Dame. He earned a B.A. in English there in 1974, and then returned home and earned a master’s in information science from Stat..

A Public Diplomacy [JB emphasis] Institute of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was inaugurated in Uzbekistan, BelTA learned from the embassy of Belarus in Tashkent.
Belarus' Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Leonid Marinich took part in a press briefing to mark the launch of the institute. He described promising fields of cooperation with Uzbekistan in the framework of the SCO. In particular, the diplomat suggested establishing cooperation between the Belarusian agricultural machinery companies and Uzbek agrarian enterprises with a view to strengthen the Shanghai Cooperation Organization food security.
The ambassador also invited companies from Uzbekistan to take part in Belagro, a large international agricultural expo held annually in Belarus.
